Product & Network

A.S. (From Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture)
Professional Background: British Shipbroking Firm, Japan Branch (General Affairs, HR, and Accounting Support)

I am part of the Product & Network department, where I am involved in operations that support ONE’s fleet navigation. The Product & Network department at headquarters is responsible for fleet development and maintenance (including newbuildings and charters), navigation management and coordination, container operation optimization, and the auditing and management of port expenses worldwide. Our role is to provide support from shore through data and systems to ensure ships operate safely and efficiently.

Our team handles a wide range of tasks supporting fleet operations, such as newbuilding projects, naming ceremonies, navigation data analysis, slot settlements with alliance partners, and vessel expense management. Within this team, I am in charge of tasks related to newbuilding projects, specifically document control for drawing approvals.

I manage the circulation of 500 to 600 drawings per vessel between headquarters engineers and shipyards to ensure they are processed accurately and on schedule. My role is to maintain the workflow so that drawings are appropriately shared, revised, and approved.

Additionally, as a team leader, I monitor the specific tasks of each member while staying attentive to any difficulties or issues arising with headquarters, ensuring the team can work smoothly.

Mission

I feel a great sense of mission in being able to support the global shipping business from a regional city like Nagasaki. Rather than simple task processing, I aim to improve the way we work through data organization and process enhancement. Furthermore, I want to contribute to the growth of ONE DEJIMA as a vital hub that supports global operations.

Challenges and Solutions

We are committed to continuous improvement, centered on business visualization and data utilization. Specifically, we are working to enhance operational efficiency by organizing business processes and identifying areas for improvement revealed by data. Our team is currently moving forward through a process of trial and error.

Beyond Expectations

Regardless of one’s experience, I feel that ONE DEJIMA provides an environment where you can continue learning new things every day. Through my involvement in global operations and new initiatives, I am frequently exposed to new knowledge and perspectives, giving me a real sense of constantly updating my own skills and mindset.

The Most Memorable Experience

In my daily work, I make an effort to speak up and share whenever I think, “This might be easier to understand,” or “This way might be more efficient.” Even for small improvement suggestions, the team at headquarters often responds positively, saying “That’s a great idea.” I feel that the accumulation of these small steps leads to an overall improvement in the quality of our operations.

Background

I was born and raised in Nagasaki City. In the early stages of my career, I gained international business experience in Tokyo working for a housing materials manufacturer and a Swiss aluminum trading firm.

Later, I spent many years engaged in a wide range of domestic and international roles, including shipbuilding projects in Nagasaki and international operations within the manufacturing sector in Singapore, developing the practical skills necessary to support organizational management. Particularly in newbuilding projects, I gained hands-on experience in coordination and project management for ship construction while collaborating with multinational stakeholders.

After a period of living in the UK as a homemaker, I moved back to Nagasaki, where I encountered the launch of ONE DEJIMA and decided to join the company.

Why ONE DEJIMA?

I was already familiar with our parent company, ONE. The news that ONE would be opening an office in Nagasaki was so significant it was almost hard to believe, and I intuitively felt that this was a place where I could leverage my experience to contribute to Nagasaki.

Changes Since Joining

I feel that I have developed a global perspective and the ability to overview business processes. Collaborating with members from various countries has exposed me to diverse values and work styles. Additionally, through my daily tasks, I have built the habit of questioning “why this process exists” and “how it can be improved.”

The Uniqueness of ONE DEJIMA

What appeals to me is the fact that I work daily with stakeholders from around the world while being based in Nagasaki. I find it truly unique to handle global operations while collaborating with our headquarters in Singapore and teams in various countries. Additionally, the culture of sharing ideas and embracing new initiatives—regardless of age or position—is a major part of ONE DEJIMA’s appeal.

Introduction to ONE DEJIMA Culture

The appeal lies in being able to handle global corporate operations from Nagasaki and the abundance of opportunities for younger members to take on challenges. Furthermore, there is a proactive culture where new initiatives—such as process improvements or AI utilization—originate from individual ideas, creating an environment where it is easy to turn one’s own thoughts into reality.

Empowering global business from Nagasaki through “Professionalism” × “Working Happily.”

By leveraging my past experiences to drive business forward and finding happiness in my own daily life, I aim to create a positive impact that leads to the happiness of my colleagues, the company, Nagasaki, Japan, and the world.

A Message to Future Colleagues

I believe this is a place where those who are eager to learn and take on challenges can achieve significant growth. Let’s work together to build the new future of ONE DEJIMA.

1st Anniversary EditionONE DEJIMA Company Introduction Video

ONE DEJIMA was established in Nagasaki and recently celebrated its first year of operations.

With the support of ONE’s headquarters in Singapore (GHQ), our local partners in Nagasaki, and the dedication of every team member, we have steadily expanded our scope and continue to grow as a vital part of ONE’s global network.

Even within the ONE Group, we are aware that our presence is not yet fully recognized.

To commemorate our first anniversary and increase awareness, we created a company introduction video.

The video showcases how ONE DEJIMA was established, the core operations entrusted to us by GHQ, and the dynamic team driving our daily work—all set against the beautiful backdrop of Nagasaki, a historic gateway to the world.

As a Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) hub supporting ONE’s core operations, we are committed to creating greater value together with our colleagues around the world.

Through this video, we hope to share what kind of organization ONE DEJIMA is and the future we envision.

We also hope it will inspire new colleagues to join us in taking on the next challenge.
