ONE GHR Operation

S.K. (From Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture)
Professional Background: Construction Industry (HR at a Home Builder)

I am responsible for HR operations, handling the operational aspects of HR tasks managed at our Singapore headquarters from our Nagasaki office, alongside recruitment-related duties. I also work on improving HR functions by reviewing business processes and enhancing efficiency through technology. My role is to support the company’s organization and work environment by ensuring a secure workplace for employees while simultaneously optimizing the HR frameworks themselves.

These tasks go beyond simply “executing transferred duties”; they require process improvement, increased efficiency, and optimization through technological integration. My role is not just to replicate the processes from Singapore but to refine and “brush them up” into a more effective form.

Furthermore, as we are in a startup phase, our HR functions are still evolving. In addition to recruitment, we are set to develop areas such as training, performance evaluation, and talent retention. As the company grows, the scope of HR’s role continues to expand.

Mission

I consider supporting the growth of ONE DEJIMA to be my mission. Specifically, through my HR role at ONE, I aim to contribute to the sustainable growth of the organization from a “talent strategy” perspective while pursuing my own professional development.

HR is the cornerstone of a company and a key driver of growth. My goal is to go beyond mere operations and become an entity that actively generates value.

Challenges and Solutions

When I first joined, I felt challenged by both my English proficiency and my professional expertise in HR. Regarding English, through proactive and consistent study—including online conversation classes and TOEIC preparation—I have reached a level where I can handle my duties without issue. However, I still see room for improvement and aim to further develop my skills to deliver higher-level proposals in the future.

As for HR, despite it being my longest-held professional area, I felt a sharp sense of inadequacy in my expertise. I am making a conscious effort not to be bound by “the way things were done in my previous role,” and instead, I actively embrace new knowledge and perspectives. By continuing to learn through both books and hands-on experience, I can feel myself gradually catching up.

Beyond Expectations

I am now working in an environment where English is part of my daily operations. Furthermore, I never imagined that I would be integrating AI into my work to such an extensive degree. It is a fast-paced environment that demands independent thinking. Instead of merely following established methods, I must constantly strive to identify and implement the optimal solutions myself.

The Most Memorable Experience

It was something Mr. Toyama, our president, once said: “Take a stand and define your own position.” Until then, I had merely been conveying candidate information based on facts, without making judgments backed by my own will.

However, he pointed out that such an approach would never lead to true professional expertise. This made me realize the vital importance of making proposals with my own thought process. Through this experience, both my workflow and my overall professional mindset have changed significantly.

Background

I began my career in banking, followed by roles in manpower coordination at a shipyard and sales in the staffing industry. Subsequently, I spent eight years in General Affairs and HR at a home builder in the construction sector. HR, in particular—encompassing recruitment and organizational development—has been the cornerstone of my career and the area where I have the most extensive experience.

My time at the shipyard provided opportunities to work with international talent and use English, which sparked a strong interest in global work environments. At the same time, having purchased my own home, it was a priority for me to build a career while remaining firmly rooted in Nagasaki.

Why ONE DEJIMA?

I decided to join the company because I felt that the opportunity to engage in global work while remaining in Nagasaki was a unique and unparalleled chance for me. Beyond being a mere back office, the fact that we function as a KPO involved in decision-making, combined with the opportunity to shape a company during its startup phase, was incredibly compelling.

Changes Since Joining

I have changed so much since joining the company that I feel like a completely different person. The most significant transformation lies in my professional attitude and perspective. I am now able to “think independently, make judgments, and provide proposals” on my own. Furthermore, being inspired by the organization’s sense of speed and high-level vision, I feel that both my mindset and my actions have evolved tremendously.

The Uniqueness of ONE DEJIMA

The uniqueness lies in the ability to engage in the core operations of major global corporations while remaining in a regional city. It is also characteristic of our environment that talent from diverse backgrounds converges here to build the company from the ground up as a startup.

Furthermore, I feel our identity as a “Dejima organization”—one that proposes improvements and innovations to our parent company—is truly distinctive. Rather than being a simple service provider, our defining feature is our role as an entity that generates and proposes real value.

Introduction to ONE DEJIMA Culture

This is a company that attracts individuals who are driven to constantly improve the status quo. Unexpected events and new challenges arise every day, but I feel that many here embrace them as opportunities and take a forward-leaning approach. The inspiration I receive from those around me has significantly accelerated my own professional growth.

Empowering global business from Nagasaki through “Lean & Agile Principles” × “Lifelong Learning Mindset.”

Precisely because we live in such volatile times, I strive to remain a lifelong learner. By fostering continuous growth for both the organization and myself, I aim to become a professional who consistently delivers value, no matter how the era evolves.

A Message to Future Colleagues

As we are in a startup phase, there will undoubtedly be inconveniences, hardships, and walls to overcome. You will face many questions that seem to have no clear answers. However, I believe there are experiences and career milestones waiting here that can only be found at ONE DEJIMA right now.

If you are ready to step out of your comfort zone and are driven to grow as an individual, I truly encourage you to take on this challenge.
