ONE DEJIMA Participated in Farm Work at Onakao Terraced Rice Fields!

On May 11, 2025, we took part in farm work at the Onakao Terraced Rice Fields in the Sotome district of Nagasaki City!

The Onakao Terraced Rice Fields are renowned for their beauty and have been selected as one of Japan’s ‘Top 100 Terraced Rice Fields’ (Tanada Hyaku-sen). For the 2025 fiscal year (Reiwa 7), ONE DEJIMA is participating in the conservation efforts as a designated Terraced Rice Field Owner.

Despite being named one of the “Top 100,” maintaining and managing the Onakao Terraced Rice Fields is becoming increasingly difficult year by year due to declining population, aging residents, and reduced productivity caused by topographical constraints. Therefore, ONE DEJIMA is committed to conservation efforts as a field owner, while also aiming to create a “place” for employees, their families, and friends to connect through these activities.

This time, the farm work session brought together seven participants, including employees, their family members, and friends.

The morning began with cleaning the long, approximately 4km irrigation canal. We heard that animals like wild boars frequently pass along the canal, often causing mud and branches to fall into the waterway. To draw clean water into the rice paddies, we worked together with other owners and members of the Onakao Terraced Rice Field Conservation Association to remove the mud and debris.

After the lunch break, we moved on to transporting the seedling trays, where the seeds had already been sown, to the designated section of the rice field, and then challenged the task of applying the plastic mulch. To ensure the seedlings grow strong for the June planting, we erected frames and carefully secured the edges of the plastic mulch with soil to prevent outside air from entering.

Through this activity, we gained a firsthand appreciation for both the challenges and the enjoyment of farm work—something we rarely experience in our daily jobs. Furthermore, interacting with the other field owners and colleagues from different departments out in nature was a very refreshing and stimulating experience!

As a company that values a Glocal (Global × Local) perspective, ONE DEJIMA is actively involved in community-rooted activities. We intend to continue cherishing opportunities like this to connect with the local nature and way of life. We plan to keep participating in farm work at the Onakao Terraced Rice Fields, and we’ll report on our activities regularly. Please look forward to the updates!

1st Anniversary EditionONE DEJIMA Company Introduction Video

ONE DEJIMA was established in Nagasaki and recently celebrated its first year of operations.

With the support of ONE’s headquarters in Singapore (GHQ), our local partners in Nagasaki, and the dedication of every team member, we have steadily expanded our scope and continue to grow as a vital part of ONE’s global network.

Even within the ONE Group, we are aware that our presence is not yet fully recognized.

To commemorate our first anniversary and increase awareness, we created a company introduction video.

The video showcases how ONE DEJIMA was established, the core operations entrusted to us by GHQ, and the dynamic team driving our daily work—all set against the beautiful backdrop of Nagasaki, a historic gateway to the world.

As a Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) hub supporting ONE’s core operations, we are committed to creating greater value together with our colleagues around the world.

Through this video, we hope to share what kind of organization ONE DEJIMA is and the future we envision.

We also hope it will inspire new colleagues to join us in taking on the next challenge.
