[New Department Launch] Exploring Kameyama Shachu and Dejima to Discover the Roots of ONE DEJIMA!

other

In April 2026, ONE DEJIMA launched a new department named “Organization & Culture” (hereafter referred to as O&C).

As our business rapidly expands and our diverse team grows, O&C’s mission is to propel ONE DEJIMA into its next growth phase, evolving it into an agile organization capable of flexibly adapting to any change.

Our Role as a “Culture Designer” to Update the Organization

ONE DEJIMA was established not merely to handle routine tasks, but as a KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) center designed to propose process improvements and create new value. To encourage our team to “step outside the box” and take on new challenges, strengthening interdepartmental collaboration and revitalizing communication is absolutely essential.

O&C takes on the role of a “Culture Designer.” We aim to co-create a culture where ONE DEJIMA’s mission, vision, and core values do not just remain mere words, but are actively practiced by every single employee with a strong sense of personal ownership.

Searching for ONE DEJIMA’s Origins: Where “Kameyama Shachu’s Ambition” Meets “Dejima’s Hub Function”

For O&C’s first official activity, we conducted a fieldwork trip to “Kameyama Shachu” and “Dejima,” the historical starting points of innovation in Nagasaki. Guided by expert curators at each location, we were able to gain deep insights into the historical background and the working styles of the people from that era.

As we toured these sites, it became clear that our ideal organizational vision is deeply connected to these two historical hubs.

At the end of the Edo period, Kameyama Shachu helped move history forward. This was made possible because it was a place where diverse individuals from different statuses and backgrounds gathered, united by high “ambition” and “advanced expertise directly linked to practical execution,” to take on challenges together.

On the other hand, Dejima, despite being a small and restricted outpost connecting Japan to the world, was a dynamic hub generating immense, world-class value (Small Hub, Big Impact). Essential to making that hub function were the “Tsuji” (interpreters/mediators)—individuals who deeply understood different cultures and backgrounds, acting as vital bridges between people.

An operational base like Dejima that broadcasts value from Nagasaki to the world, while internally functioning like Kameyama Shachu—a place where diverse talents gather under a shared ambition. An organization that intertwines these two roots is our ultimate ideal.

Learning deeply from the historical origins breathing in the land of Nagasaki, O&C will continue to engage in various activities to evolve ONE DEJIMA into a resilient organization that gracefully adapts to change.

1st Anniversary EditionONE DEJIMA Company Introduction Video

ONE DEJIMA was established in Nagasaki and recently celebrated its first year of operations.

With the support of ONE’s headquarters in Singapore (GHQ), our local partners in Nagasaki, and the dedication of every team member, we have steadily expanded our scope and continue to grow as a vital part of ONE’s global network.

Even within the ONE Group, we are aware that our presence is not yet fully recognized.

To commemorate our first anniversary and increase awareness, we created a company introduction video.

The video showcases how ONE DEJIMA was established, the core operations entrusted to us by GHQ, and the dynamic team driving our daily work—all set against the beautiful backdrop of Nagasaki, a historic gateway to the world.

As a Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) hub supporting ONE’s core operations, we are committed to creating greater value together with our colleagues around the world.

Through this video, we hope to share what kind of organization ONE DEJIMA is and the future we envision.

We also hope it will inspire new colleagues to join us in taking on the next challenge.
